Genesis 17:1-8

Off-Roading Observation:
1) We, like Abraham, follow a “Deal Making” God, whom we can count on to keep His end of His deals. He fulfills His part in His timing and in His way revealing that He is God Almighty.

Genesis 17:9-27

Off-Roading Observation:
2) There are 4 “B”s to being blessed like Abraham and Sarai and experiencing the fulfillment of God’s deal with His children.

1. Be faithful in serving.
Genesis 17:1 – “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty.’ Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life.”

2. Be blameless.
Genesis 17:1; Psalm 84:11-12 – “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, How blessed is the man who trusts in You!”

3. Be obedient in doing your end of the deal.

Genesis 17:9 – “Then God said to Abraham, “Your responsibility is to obey the terms of the covenant. You and all your descendants have this continual responsibility. Genesis 17:26

4. Believe despite delays and overwhelming obstacles.
Genesis 17:17-19 – “Then Abraham bowed down to the ground, but he laughed to himself in disbelief. “How could I become a father at the age of 100?” he thought. “And how can Sarah have a baby when she is ninety years old?” So Abraham said to God, “May Ishmael live under your special blessing!” But God replied, “No—Sarah, your wife, will give birth to a son for you. You will name him Isaac, and I will confirm my covenant with him and his descendants as an everlasting covenant.”

Genesis 18:1-19

Off-Roading Observation:
3) God’s deal-keeping isn’t dependant on our ability to figure out how He’ll do it or our finding a way for it to happen. Nothing is too hard for Him, and He is fully capable of completing His deals with us.

Key Scripture: Genesis 18:14 – “Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”

Genesis 18:18-19 –
“For Abraham will certainly become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him. I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.”
