Speaker: Steve Scroggins

Series: Off-Roading With God

Categories: Everson

1. Life is full of tests!
2. All of us like to pass our tests the first time we take them.
3. God will test us repeatedly, like He did Abraham and Sarah, so we need to learn how to pass His faith tests.

Genesis 22:1-19

Off-Roading Observations:
1) Like Abraham, our faith is not really tested until God asks us to bear what seems unbearable, do what seems to be completely unreasonable, and believe for what seems totally impossible.
Hebrews 10:38; Hebrews 11:1-2

2) Abraham succeeded in passing this staggering
test by:

a) Stretching in faith for what he had never seen before but believed God was able to do.

Hebrews 11:17-19

b) Surrendering what he cherished the most and had waited for his entire life. Hebrews 11:18; Proverbs 17:3; Proverbs 21:2

c) Submitting to God’s unreasonable request, without hesitation and with complete cooperation. Genesis 22:3; Genesis 22:9-10

3) Abraham saw God’s amazing provision in yet another way through his faith-filled, irrational obedience. So can we! Genesis 22:8; Genesis 22:13-14; 2 Chronicles 16:9a

4) Abraham passed this test with flying colors and received a renewed commitment from God for all the blessings that had been promised him.

Genesis 22:15-18

So how do we pass God’s tests in our lives?

1) Expect them and embrace the purpose of them
James 1:2-4; Romans 12:2

2) Focus on who you know not what you don’t know
Romans 8:28-29; 2 Corinthians 4:17

3) Believe God for everything you need to pass them

Isaiah 43:1-3

What Abraham did not have to do, God did, and gave His only Son as the Lamb that took away all our sins and made all the blessings of God fully available to all who believe in Him.

Romans 8:32 – “Since He did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else?”
