Genesis 20:1-13
Off-Roading Observation:
1. God placed His promise in Abraham and Sarah, even though their faith was flawed and imperfect. He has done the same in us.
2 Corinthians 4:5-7 – "...but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.” Colossians 1:27
Genesis 20:14-18
Off-Roading Observation:
2. We can honor or dishonor the promises (treasure) of God through the way we live our lives out-loud. This knowledge should give us an abiding sense of awe and responsibility.
Abraham's excuses before Abimilech:
1) No fear of God in this place: shifting blame
2) She is my sister – ½ truth is a whole lie: compromise
3) It’s God’s fault – He sent me to wander: playing the victim card
Proverbs 29:25; Matthew 10:28
Genesis 21:1-7
Off-Roading Observation:
3. God is faithful to Himself and His Word. This should give us astounding confidence to squarely face our repeat offenses and then shift our focus to Him.
Nehemiah 9:8b; Romans 4:21 – “He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever He promises.” Philippians 1:6
2 Corinthians 4:18; Hebrews 12:1-2 – "Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus.”
• The Key to attitude is focus.
• The Key to behavior is attitude.
• When my faith is focused on the “treasure” in me,
WONDER and WORSHIP increase exponentially,
motivating me to change.
Restated:
• When I WONDER and WORSHIP at the
incomparable treasure of the living WORD, I will
want to excel in WITNESS and WORKS to bring
Him glory.
Isn’t that what you want?
