Do You Have Room for Just One More?
As we were driving back towards the orphanage from an outing, we came upon a small boy playing near the road. The boy was naked and very dirty. He was all alone with no food or clothes. We called him over and gave him some water and nuts and fruit that we had with us, then we drove on to the orphanage. The boy was heavy on our hearts and minds. We all knew that the orphanage was way past full with 35 kids in a building the size of a living room. It was ridiculous to consider one more, but what would Jesus do with this? One of us brought up the health issue of so many children in such a small area. Yes, this was true, but they are all well fed and well taken care of. We felt that even in these conditions Jesus was asking us if we had room for just one more. We decided that no matter how full the orphanage was, we would travel back up to see what was really going on with the boy.
We got back into the truck and returned to where we had last seen the boy. We hiked about 2 miles up the hill to a small mud hut in sad disrepair where we met the boy’s mother, father and 6 children. We told them why we had come looking for the boy and why we were concerned. After some discussion, the man said he had been praying about becoming a Christian for a few months, and that someone would come to help him, because he did not know how. I told him that I would help him and he was very glad but said, “not just me, but my whole family.” Nathan and I led his whole family to salvation in Christ, and then we led a neighbor to salvation also. Just then another woman came by. When she found out what had happened, she began to cry and explained that she was the man’s sister, and her whole family was Christian, except for this man and his family. They had been praying for him to come to Christ for a long time. We all sang praises and rejoiced for what God had done. Because we had room for just one more, God allowed us to participate in a miracle for Him!
